For some fans of middle distance running, seeing Clark at the top of the American rankings year after year has gotten pretty stale. But two things are certain: Clark is not going away any time soon and she is certainly not going down without a fight. The three-time Olympian survived some early jostling, a strong headwind and her younger competitors to emerge victorious in the women's 800m at the USA Outdoor Championships for the fifth time in her 10-year professional career. "This one means a lot to me because some people were saying some nasty things about me on the internet, telling me to sit down and we're ready for someone new," Clark said. "People like to root for the underdog and want someone else to pop up and win, and I get that. But they forget to understand that the person that comes here year after year is a really tough person. People pop up every year to challenge me and I'm still here, running through injuries, through ups and downs, all sorts of problems and still winning. I'm proud of myself for fighting year after year." [more, universalsports.com]
