01.10.09: COLE IMPRESSES AT CHICKASAW CHASE 10-MILER. Seventeen-year-old Mark Cole of McKenzie ran impressively to win the Chickasaw Chase 10-miler , held at Chickasaw State Park, near Henderson. The McKenzie High School cross-country stand-out, who was 2nd in the boys' A-AA race at the State cross-country championships in November, clocked 57:18 to finish more than two minute clear of Mark Brzuchalski, the next runner home. Nashville's Melissa Begin clocked 1:06:51 to finish first female. First male and female masters home were Millington's Clint Daniels and Clarksville's Julie Johnson, who ran 1:04:21 and 1:20:07 respectively. [results]
01.03.09: FINDLEY AT HILL AND DALE 8-MILER. Jackson's Jack Findley had little trouble winning the Hill and Dale 8-miler, held at Meeman Shelby State Park, near Millington. The Murray State senior clocked a relaxed 49:11 to finish exactly tw o minutes clear of Millington's Clint Daniels. Forty-four year old Roberta Myers of xxxxxx was the first female home, clocking 56:08. David Dia, 41, of Memphis was the first male master to finish, clocking 51:45. [results]
01.01.09: FAMIGLIETTI TORCHES FIELD AT NEW YEAR'S DAY 5K. Two-time
Olympian, Anthony Famiglietti, cruised to a 14:38 clocking to lead a trio of ex-Vols and win Knoxville's New Year's Day 5K, finishing 150 meters ahead of Jeff Day at 15:04, with Stewart Ellington claiming third in 15:16. Nineteen-year-old Kelsey Armstrong of Talbott continued her fine recent form with a 17:57 win to finish 15 seconds clear of runner-up, Katie Flaute. First male and female masters home were 52-year-old Jeff Colfer and Kathy Wolski (3rd female overall) with times of 17:32 and 18:37 respectively. [results]
01.01.09: ADLER, BAUER CLAIM OVERALL TITLES AT RESOLUTION RUN. Warren Adler and KIm Bauer notched overall wins at the Resolution Run 5K held in downtown Nashville. Adler, 27, clocked 16:51 to comfortably run away from runner-up, Jacob Carrigan. Bauer, 29, had her hands full courtesy of Tullahoma High School stand-out, Claire Benjamin. Bauer clocked 20:17 to finish 6 seconds up on the youngster. The male master home was 47-year-old Eric Morrow of Murfreesboro, who clocked 18:22, while 56-year-old Victoria Crisp easily outpaced the other female masters, clocking an impressive 20:26, good for third female overall. 01.01.09: RICKER AND SCALF SHOW ELDERS A CLEAN PAIR OF HEELS AT NEW YEAR'S WAKE UP 5K. Teenagers, Tyler Ricker and Allie Scalf, were the overall male and female victors at the Wake Up 5K in Surgoinsville. Nineteen year old Ricker, from Greeneville, edged Isaiah Worrem, 17, be a second to nab the male overall win. Johnson City's Allie Scalf, however, won in rather more convincing fashion, clocking 18:57 to win by 24 seconds and set a new course record. Johnson City also provided the male and female masters champs in Earl Brown, 52, and Karen Sieferth, 51. They clocked 19:34 and 20:50 respectively. [results]
