Thank you to all the runners, volunteers, and gerenrous sponsors that made the 2011 R3 Beachaven WineryTurkey Trot a success, and a huge thank you to Clarksville Running Club, without whose help I couldn't have pulled this race together.
Despite the very windy conditions, we saw all four event records tumble as Nashville's Ryan Snellen clocked 25:04 to win the 10-miler, while Ryan Sheehan of Louisville,KY clocked 52:43 to win the men's 10-miler. On the women's side, Brentwood's Sonja Friend-Uhl, 40, ran very impressively to win both races, clocking 28:59 in the 5-miler and then bouncing back to clock a very impressive 1:00:38 to set new Tennessee state records for the 40-44 age group for both distances.
The R3 Beachaven Winery Turkey Trot offers two great races on one morning - a 5-miler and a 10-miler. Thus, the event caters from beginning runners to advanced speedsters.
The new fast, flat USATF-certified courses promise to yield personal records, with 30 percent of the elevation change from the 2010 courses eliminated.
Run your race (or perhaps do both races if you're training for a marathon) with 300-400 other runners and then celebrate your run by relaxing with a glass of Beachaven wine and listening to great live music.
With over $1600 in cash and several cases of Beachaven wine up for grabs, the 10-miler has already attracted strong interest from many of the fastest runners in Tennessee, and we fully expect several state records to tumble.
